The other good news is that in the past 3 years Charlotte has decreased its overall theft rating for the whole country, whereas in 2006 the area was rated as 29th worst and presently rated as 50th out of the top 361.

The most heated spots for car theft is in western USA due to the proximity to Mexico. Drug trafficking may be a big part of the problem.

The NCIB gives tips on how to keep your car from being stolen.

  • Park in well lit areas.
  • Take your keys out of your car when you park it.
  • Any valuables that you may have make sure you keep them out of view- preferably out of the car.

Other means to help prevent theft are:

  • Auto anti theft devices
  • Buy a car that has low theft value.
  • A GPS unit in car
  • Park in a locked garage.
